Our Priorities

The policy directions of the Office of Women’s Policy are detailed in the Victorian Women’s Policy Framework 2008-11. The Women’s Policy Framework 2008-11 identifies four priority areas for women, where a continued focus is needed. These are:

1. Justice and Safety

  • Reduce and prevent violence against women and children
  • Perpetrators are held accountable
  • Ensure the community does not tolerate violence against women

2. Education, Work and Economic Independence
  • Promote flexible education, training and employment opportunities for women
  • Promote flexible and equitable workplaces
  • Increase women’s financial independence through-out their life course

3. Health, Wellbeing and Community Strengthening
  • Improve women’s physical, mental and social wellbeing
  • Focus on the health of women experiencing social or economic disadvantage
  • Create strong communities, in which women are engaged and have leadership roles

4. Representation and Equity
  • Promote women’s full participation in community and public life
  • Promote equal representation of women as decision makers and leaders
  • Recognise the contribution of Victoria’s women

Future policy directions to meet these objectives are also detailed in the Women’s Policy Framework.
The Office of Women’s Policy will provide an annual report on progress.
