2009 Premier’s Women’s Summit - Women’s Leadership in the Workplace
On 8 September 2009 more than 200 representatives from, business, community and government organisations gathered in Melbourne for the Premier’s Women’s Summit, which focused on Women’s Leadership in the Workplace.
The purpose of this year’s Summit was to examine the benefit to organisations when women participate in leadership and to explore high level strategies which can ensure that the workplace provides the opportunity for women’s leadership.
The Minister for Women’s Affairs, Maxine Morand opened the summit introducing the keynote speaker,
The Premier John Brumby launched the Women’s Leadership Grants which provides funding of up to $20,000 each to women’s organisations and groups for projects and activities that develop capacity and increase opportunities for women to participate in leadership roles. The closing date for applications is the 30 November 2009.
The Summit included a panel discussion that explored organisational strategies to overcome the barriers, as well as presentations from leading academics and thinkers on the topic. The panel was made up of the following members:

Previous Summits
Since 2000 the Premier has hosted a Summit each year as part of the Government’s commitment to a continuous conversation with women. Summit themes focus on emerging issues for women.
The Summits provide excellent networking opportunities, with past attendees stating their main reasons for attending as “being able to voice my views to Government” and “networking”.
